Recruiting/Interview Skills

Our primary focus is to reduce your hiring risks. Secondly, your hiring costs will also be reduced when compared to traditional, outsourced recruiting.

The process: We meet with you to help you assess your staffing needs. We then write and place an effective career advertisement that is placed in appropriate media including web sites. We selectively prescreen, conduct thorough interviews and present a short list to you. We charge by the hour or by project, not by commission. There is no additional cost should you hire more than one candidate and all candidate files will remain your property. References are thoroughly verified and both good and bad news is shared with you. Great emphasis is placed on cultural fit and candidate potential. We delve deeper than simply reviewing skills and experience.

Panel Interviews: We facilitate panel interviews should this be an appropriate step. We will guide and challenge you throughout the process.

Employment Contracts

Employment Contracts are becoming more commonplace and can simplify the exit process. Some even include termination clauses. It's not necessary for all employees to complete an employment contract; however, we certainly recommend some form of signed contract for any employee who is privy to information or contacts that would be of benefit to your competitors. A simple confidentiality and/or non-compete clause is a proactive step that we highly recommend for specific employees. We'll help you draft these. Our objective is to clearly communicate and detail commitments and expectations. Discussions in advance bring ethics and fit to the surface, which may reduce or eliminate future legal fees.

We are a registered ad agency and have many years of experience writing effective career advertisements. We continually ask candidates what attracts them to specific ads from headings, copy, ad size, creative/look as well as which media (newspapers and/or web sites) are most successful for them.

An experienced senior consultant will write your advertisements. We do not pass on any additional charges to you for preparing professional, camera-ready art. The creativity and professional look will be dependent on the size and cost you approve.

Downsizing, Terminating Employees and Outplacement

Downsizing and termination is not a pleasant task. We help ease you through the process by:

  • Being a mediator in sensitive and awkward situations.
  • Assist with termination, whether it be in making the decision, documenting, the actual termination and explaining your decision to peers or subordinates.
  • Conduct group and individual sessions with employees re resume preparation, interview skills and overall, steps they need to take to find their next job/career.

If you are re-structuring or downsizing, we'll help you make some decisions, break the news to your staff and work with them as outplacement consultants. Communication is key in order to maintain a high level of productivity from the employees you choose to retain over the short term.

Exit Interviews

It's important to know why people choose to leave your company. Some may simply have outgrown the position and are making a good career decision to move on. Others may have been salvaged. Regardless of why they have chosen to leave your employ, there is generally an abundance of information that they will share. This information may shed light on a manager's performance, miscommunication internally and definitely be of benefit as you re-hire. Departing employees will generally share more openly with a third party.

Internal Assessments

Internal assessments are performed so you will better understand and utilize your employees. We meet individually with some or all your staff where they share invaluable information. Some of the areas we look for include:

  • Is your staff passionate about their jobs?
  • Do they have skills or interests that could be better utilized?
  • Are the right people doing the right work?
  • What tools or training do they need to become better performers?
  • Are people effectively communicating?
  • Is your staff aware of whom their internal clients are?
  • What is their perception of the senior management team?

Whether our findings are positive or negative, we help you take appropriate action, communicate back to your employees and move forward with the best team possible.

These assessments generally have a very positive affect on your keen staff. The nervous ones often need to have their feathers ruffled. It gives everyone an opportunity to voice their concerns and contribute to your company's growth. Communication and morale are usually improved as a result of this process.

Doing blind surveys that are constructively designed and customized to your company can be very enlightening. Your people are a valuable asset. These surveys will both confirm some of your thoughts and shed light on other areas that you may be overlooking. Employee surveys are very effective as long as you are prepared to make some changes and communicate action steps and timing back to the employees.

We help your new supervisors or managers improve their people skills as well as their comfort level when interacting with their staff. We're only a telephone call away and will coach them through difficult or sensitive people-related challenges.

It is common practice for companies to promote their better, skilled workers, whether the person is in sales, finance or production/engineering. Managing and leading people may be an entirely new challenge for some. Many would welcome and greatly benefit from some coaching in areas such as: performance reviews, effective communications (up, down and lateral) and conducting interviews, to name a few.
